Heather Williams Resume Reel:
Greetings from the Great Plains!
Local sports are not dying. Local sportscasters are killing it. While the news landscape is ever changing in its reach through internet, social and interactive media, many local sportscasters are stuck doing the same old boring scores and highlights they have been doing for years.
I have been a leader when it comes to social media. I maintain a pair of Twitter and Facebook pages and a NASCAR blog. My blog has be nominated for an Emmy and I am actively involved in providing ideas as our newsroom continues to develop new ways to reach viewers. Many of my ideas have been made standard practice in my newsroom.
More importantly, in this ever changing television environment, is flexibility. Whether is it with scheduling, or having a reporter who can jump in and shoot breaking news or make a phone call on spot news, the more you understand how the entire newsroom works, the more valuable you become. I am a sports reporter and my heart is deeply planted there, but I have never been afraid of jumping in where ever need to make a newsroom successful.
When it comes to covering sports, I think it important to live local. As the old cliche' goes "everyone has a story." I love to find those stories and share them. Plus, I am sports fan, whose excitement about what she does every day is contagious and I think it comes through in my work.
I have worked in television for nearly 20 years, and as you can tell from my resume I have done it all, from production work, to hosting the World Hamburger eating championships.
